oPREON
What are option calls?
Within the context of Preon, option-call PREON (or oPREON) is an illiquid token earned upon depositing in Preon’s Stability Pool. It can be redeemed for PREON at a discount. Redemption is done via STAR at a variable discount set by Preon policy.
Other than redemption, oPREON can be zapped into vePREON at a 1:1 ratio.
How do I earn oPREON?
oPREON is currently only earnable through the Stability Pool.
How do I redeem oPREON?
Users have a fixed rate at which they are able to redeem oPREON. This incentivizes users to deposit more liquidity into the Stability Pool, strengthening the STAR peg.
Users can: Zap oPREON into vePREON at a 1:1 ratio Use the in-house swap (support applicable on a chain-per-chain basis) to redeem oPREON for STAR without the need for upfront capital, only a minimal fee of 1-3% Use STAR to redeem oPREON for PREON at a variable discount
How are oPREON options formulated?
The formula is very simple: 𝑠𝑡𝑟𝑖𝑘𝑒𝑃𝑟𝑖𝑐𝑒=𝑠𝑝𝑜𝑡𝑃𝑟𝑖𝑐𝑒×𝑑𝑖𝑠𝑐𝑜𝑢𝑛𝑡𝑃𝑒𝑟𝑐𝑒𝑛𝑡𝑎𝑔𝑒
The discount is variable & set by Preon policy depending on what is being incentivized.
It cannot be changed once locked in, ensuring that redemption is at the discount the user agreed to.
Example: Bob supplies STAR to the Stability Pool on Preon & earns $100 worth of oPREON. For this example, the discount is set to 20%. To realize his rewards, Bob redeems his oPREON for $80 worth of STAR. The STAR is deposited into the Stability Pool on behalf of the Treasury, creating consistent peg safety, and absorbing the minted stablecoin supply to become POL (Protocol Owned Liquidity), allowing upward pressure for the stablecoin to be arbitraged against.
Bob can now sell his PREON for a $20 profit. OR Bob wants to lock his $100 worth of oPREON for $100 worth of vePREON to earn protocol fees.
What are the benefits of call options over liquidity mining?
- Increased protocol loyalty
- Incentivized lockup
- Decreased sell pressure
- Amplified sustainability
